What is Data Enrichment?

What does Data Enrichment mean?

Data Enrichment is the process of enhancing existing datasets by adding missing or additional information to improve accuracy, completeness, and usability. In MRO Data and ERP systems, enrichment ensures that spare parts, vendor records, and asset data include all the necessary technical and commercial details.

While Data Cleaning removes errors and duplicates, enrichment goes further by filling in gaps — for example, adding manufacturer part numbers, UNSPSC/eClass codes, specifications, or supplier references.

Key elements of Data Enrichment

  1. Attribute completion – Adding missing fields such as manufacturer, model, or unit of measure.
  2. Classification mapping – Applying standards like UNSPSC, eClass, or ISO for better cataloguing.
  3. Technical details – Adding specifications such as dimensions, ratings, or tolerances.
  4. Commercial data – Linking to supplier info, pricing, and lead times.
  5. Cross-references – Mapping equivalent or interchangeable parts.

Why Data Enrichment matters

For asset-intensive industries, incomplete data is a barrier to effective ERP and CMMS performance. Without enriched datasets, spare parts catalogues and vendor records lack the detail needed for procurement, maintenance planning, and inventory optimisation.

By enriching data, companies can:

  • Improve searchability and reporting in ERP/CMMS.
  • Enable supplier negotiations and spend analysis.
  • Reduce downtime with accurate, detailed spare parts.
  • Support predictive maintenance and digital twins.

Sharecat Data Services helps clients transform incomplete datasets into structured, business-ready assets. Through enrichment, Sharecat ensures that material, vendor, and MRO data meet global standards and integrate seamlessly with ERP, CMMS, and EAM systems.
